I was living and teaching in Coldwater, MS when I moved to Alaska in 1992. I taught three years in Sitka, AK (the old Russian capital) then four years in Anchorage, AK (Alaska’s largest city). While in Anchorage I taught history at the Anchorage extension of Wayland Baptist University and the Alaska Baptist Native School of Theology. In 1998 I returned to teach five years in Morganton, GA where I helped start a Christian school, the Mountain Area Christian Academy, which is now one of the largest private schools in North Georgia. During this time I led educational trips to Liverpool, England; East Africa; and the Middle East. Our team led a summer school program in England, assisted in regular public schools of Tanzania and Uganda, and scouted for educational opportunities with a partner in Oman. In 2003 I moved to the Dominican Republic and taught social studies one year in Santiago at the Santiago Christian School. I returned to Georgia in 2004 and taught at the Paulding Youth Detention Center. I moved to Albany in 2005 to begin teaching at Albany High School.
Teachers often work other jobs during the summers when school is out and I am thankful to have worked at Home Depot, Roto Rooter, MARTA in Atlanta, and United Parcel Service. In school I also worked for Federal Express. I grew up working in my uncle’s hardware store and writing for our weekly newspaper in Dallas.
Now I also work for The Albany Herald as a sportswriter covering mostly high school athletics. I also lead the music at Calvary Baptist Church where several music students from Albany High School have come to play. In my free time, and I don’t get much, I still love to travel, study history, and collect very old books. I have an original copy of the Congressional Record from 1798 when John Adams was president and I have a first edition of “Scottish Chiefs”, the original Braveheart story of William Wallace first published in 1845. I also love to play World of Warcraft. You can find me there on Steemweedle Cartel as Timotheus, guild leader of Guardians of the Realm.
I am married to Tracy since 1986 and we have three children Ben 16, Eli 13, and Sara 11. Ben and Eli are students at Albany High School. Sara goes to Robert Cross Middle School. We live on 12th Avenue in Albany and we have a swimming pool at our house!
My parents are retired and living in Dallas, GA. They built a new house after returning from 12 years in Dallas, TX! My sister Cindy lives in Forney, TX and is a second grade teacher there. I have a grandmother still living independently in Mableton, GA. Having lived in so many places, I am thankful to have dear friends literally all over the world in many different occupations.
